Unique art-pop four-piece Porij have returned with yet another genre-bending electronic cut. ‘Unpredictable’ is driven by a powerful and fierce vocal line, but its accompaniment is much harder to pin down. There is a clear influence from UK garage in there somewhere, but sonically, there are many references to house music, and even a punchy drop into melodic drum and bass. Considering its dancefloor-ready sonic palette, the band don’t downplay the importance of lyrics: “These lyrics came from a poem I wrote in November. It was fairly bleak, but in essence was all about missing the simplicity of my early life but craving the complexity of the life that could come. In that period of time everything felt quite up and down and I didn’t really know how I was going to feel from one day to the next.” Porij are performing around the UK in April, and are releasing their fantastic debut album, Teething, on April 26th, 2024, via Play It Again Sam Records. -Dan Peeke
